The Japanese giant has ordered four 20,150-teu ships at Samsung Heavy Industries in a deal worth close to $620m in total.

It has also agreed long-term charter deals with Shoei Kisen Kaisha for two 20,150-teu containerships to be built at Imabari Shipbuilding.

MOL said all six vessels would be delivered during 2017 and will go into service between Europe and Asia.

“The newbuilding vessels will adopt various highly advanced energy-saving technologies, which will further reduce fuel consumption and cost, in comparison with 14,000 teu types that MOL currently operates,” MOL said.
