Richard Fain-led Royal Caribbean is offloading the 69,100 ton Splendour of the Seas (built 1996) to TUI, in which it holds a stake via a joint venture.

Fain explained in a statement: “The ship’s sale is in line with our strategic objective of divesting ourselves of older hardware and keeps us firmly on the course to the double-double.”

The double-double initiative was laid down by the cruise line last year as an effort to double both earnings per share (EPS) and return on invested capital by 2017.
