Three sets of talks with the Indian Ports Association, government ministers and the chief labour commissioner have been arranged in the intervening period, domestic reports said.
Dockers had scheduled an indefinite walk-out from Monday over "corporatisation of ports."
Port bosses now hope to avoid a strike from 16 March.
Five unions are involved in the dispute, which covers all 12 of India's major terminals.
