The containerships will be built at the South Korean shipbuilder’s facility in the Phillipines for delivery in the third quarter of 2017.

No financial details were disclosed, but it is thought that Hanjin will be cheaper than its rivals at around $145m each, as the ships will not be built in South Korea.

CMA CGM is the third carrier to break through the 20,000-teu barrier following in the footsteps of OOCL and Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL).
