The official IRNA news agency cited a source at the country’s Ports and Maritime Organisation (PMO) as saying the 5,470-teu vessel (built 2014) had been released.

Further details were promised in an official statement later.

A Maersk spokesman confirmed the vessel had now been freed.

Iran says the detention was a result of a legal dispute with Iranian oil products company Pars Talayieh.
