Trade association Interferry is to recommend new ways for the European Union (EU) to measure fuel consumption by ro-paxes carrying mixed cargoes.
It has formed an industry group chaired by Denmark's DFDS to look at the best way of monitoring carbon dioxide emissions under legislation entering force from 1 January 2018.
On this date, all ships of more than 5,000 gt operating to or from EU ports will have to document and report fuel consumption each year.
