Canada’s BC Ferries has pushed up second-quarter earnings as revenue rose.

Net profit to 30 September was CAD 84.5m ($63.25m), from CAD 76.41m in 2014.

Revenue rose to CAD 292.48m from CAD 284.16m as it carried 7.1m passengers and 2.6m vehicles, an increase of 3.4% and 3.5% respectively.

Operating expenses increased from CAD 192.6m to CAD 194m over the same period.

“Due to the seasonality of ferry travel, we typically generate higher net earnings in the first and second quarters, which are subsequently reduced by net losses in the last two quarters of the fiscal year,” said CEO Mike Corrigan.
