Canada’s Irving Shipbuilding has come under fire for asking the government to halt a containership conversion contract awarded to rival Davie Shipbuilding.

The Shipbuilding Association of Canada (SAC) said the deal to turn a ship acquired from Capital Ship Management of Greece into a supply vessel for the navy should not be stalled.

"The Association strongly recommends that the government do not delay the signing of the contract for this urgent operational requirement.
