New lock sills at the expanded Panama Canal have been reinforced to resolve a problem with water seepage.
The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) said the work was completed this week, bringing the new bigger waterway nearer to opening.
"The filling of the Pacific-facing Cocoli Locks has already begun, and the filling of the Atlantic-facing Agua Clara Locks began today [Thursday]," it added.
