The Port of Oakland saw operations halt early Monday as dock workers protested a 15-minute change in their start time.

Some 22 longshoremen were fired after they refused to start work at 6:45 a.m. Pacific time. The workers, all member of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, protested the move because their contract stated a 7 a.m. start time.

The firing prompted another 44 longshoremen to walk off their jobs, delaying at least one ship at the Oakland International Container Terminal and causing a backlog of trucks waiting to receive containers.
