Swire Shipping's new boxship service from Tasmania to the Australian mainland is operating at less than a third of capacity.
The nine-day loop from Hobart to Sydney and Brisbane was launched in November.
ABC cited Swire commercial manager Alex Pattison as saying the run needs to be ramped up over the next three to six months.
"Like everything we need more cargo," he said.
