Poland has begun the privatisation of Baltic ferry player Polferries, with Maersk and DFDS of Denmark tipped as potential buyers.

The country’s treasury has announced a public invitation for negotiations, with 91.64m shares up for grabs. These have a face value of PLN 95m ($32.89m).

The company, which has four ferries, carried 1m passengers and 300,000 trucks in 2008.

"Our advantages are a respectable brand, know-how and our employees," CEO Jan Warchol told local media.
