Two of the world’s largest liner companies are preparing to take advantage of the newly inaugurated expanded Panama Canal.

Both Maersk Line and CMA CGM have welcomed the official opening of the widened waterway, that will see vessels with capacity of up to 14,000 teu transit via Panama.

The expanded canal opened its gates yesterday with the 9,443-teu Cosco Shipping Panama (built 2016) becoming the first ship to transit through the Agua Clara locks.
