Diana Containerships says the effect of the expanded locks on the Panama Canal on the boxship market will take a while to be felt as only a few ports are ready for larger vessels.

Diana president Anastasios Margaronis says there is “no doubt that the containership market has been very weak during the first half of 2016.”

Despite strong scrapping levels in the first half of the year, “charter rates did react as expected due to the large number of ships in layup that were reactivated.
