Cargo owners are withholding as much as $80m owed to Hanjin Shipping.

The collapsed Korean owner’s lawyer Ilana Volkov told a hearing at a US Bankruptcy Court in Newark, New Jersey, that the lack of payments was complicating its ability to move freight, Reuters reported.

“Hanjin is not the only bad guy here,” she added.

But a lawyer for furniture maker Ashley Furniture Industries told the court that it was important to keep the money, as it is paying more to transport goods inland from ports, which Hanjin had originally been contracted to do.
