Chinese shipyards look to have the most to lose if Maersk Line’s no newbuilding policy spreads to other owners.

UK shipbroker Affinity Shipping says there are 36 Chinese yards with at least one containership in their backlog.

In contrast the number of shipyards in Japan is just nine, while South Korea has just seven with containerships on their orderbooks.

China’s overall market share does not exceed 40%, as several of the yards can only build smaller containerships.
