Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) has expanded its offshore footprint with the acquisition of a 5% stake in Seajacks International.

The Japanese shipowning giant has acquired the stake from compatriot Marubeni. No financial terms were disclosed.

MOL said its move into the self-elevating platform vessel sector mirrored similar moves into FPSOs, FSRUs, shuttle tankers and subsea support vessels.

“It is also the first step to move into the renewable energy business field through involvement in installation of offshore wind power generation systems, which is expanding in Europe and other areas around the world,” it added.
