Coco Vroon, managing director of privately owned Dutch offshore player Vroon BV, is concerned that the estimated 1,600 offshore vessels currently in layup — 600 of which were straight out of the shipbuilding yards — represent a major problem for the industry on two fronts.

He is worried about these vessels being sold off cheap to newcomers wanting to take a punt on the offshore markets once they eventually improve, and he is concerned who will be left to crew the ships once they return to service.
