Rates for platform supply vessels (PSVs) in the North Sea have risen sharply as free tonnage dried up.

Brokers reported a fee of £15,000 ($19,450) per day for Dof's 4,200-dwt Skandi Marstein (built 1996) to carry out supply duties for BP over two weeks.

The ship took £8,800 for its previous job on 1 August.

The fleet of 18 working ships was fully booked in Norway, and only two of 37 units were available for prompt dates in the UK.
