Oslo-listed OSV owner Subsea 7 has dropped into the red for the first quarter.
The company, which is offering $2bn to take over US contractor McDermott, said the net loss was $18m to 31 March, from a profit of $146m a year ago.
Revenue dipped to $809m from $897m.
CEO Jean Cahuzac said market momentum was maintained with several contract awards.
