The Port of Corpus Christi is trying to hold off a proposal by Trafigura's Texas Gulf Terminals to construct a floating oil terminal in the Gulf of Mexico.

In August, port lawyer Debra Tsuchiyama Baker asked to delay the application, given Trafigura's 2006 guilty plea to falsely saying it sold oil from the former UN Oil for Food programme.

She wrote in a letter to federal officials that it cannot be determined if Texas Gulf Terminals also has criminal convictions since it "has chosen to hide" the Trafigura case, Financial Times reported.
