SAL shifting monsters

K Line heavy-lift operation SAL has won a major infrastructure transport contract for the Icthys LNG project off Australia.

The company said its Singapore unit will work for Australia's BAM Clough joint venture, carrying LNG and LPG product loading platforms to Darwin.

The two structures being built in Batam, Indonesia, will be among the largest cargoes ever handled by a heavy-lift vessel.

The LNG platform will weigh in at 1,080 tonnes and is 40 metres long, while the LPG structure will be 1,320 tonnes with a length of 45 metres.

SAL Heavy Lift will use its 15,000-gt Svenja (built 2010) for the job, the world’s heaviest such ship.

The work is scheduled for the middle of 2014.
