An unnamed major oil company is paying$34.5m – or around $102,000 per day - for the 210-bp Tor Viking II (built 2000)for 11 months.

This far outstrips day rates in the NorthSea of around $34,000 per day.

The company, owned by Rederi ABTransatlantic of Sweden, said there are two six-month options.

“The contract strengthens the company’sposition within harsh environment operations,” it added.
