The Nordic American Tanker spin-off said the Fincantieri-owned shipbuilder will construct the $43m ships at its Aukra yard.

They have “essentially similar design and capabilities” as its current fleet and are “particularly well suited for operations in the North Sea and in cold climate conditions,” it added.

Delivery in the second and third quarter of 2015 will increase the fleet to 10 PSVs.

An option with the deal has to be declared in July.

New York-listed NAO said the deal represented a “natural step in the further development of Nordic American Offshore to position itself as a major player in the offshore supply market.”
