NSB makes wind bid

Germany’s Reederei NSB has teamed up with offshore consultant Offcon to design two new wind farm ships.

The companies claim the multipurpose offshore vessels (MPOVs) will be efficient and cost-effective.

The MPOV-62 and MPOV-32 designs can perform 80% of all offshore wind jobs in 90% of weather conditions.

“Since it is not possible to cover all requirements of the offshore-wind market with one single vessel type, we have designed a modular concept,” said Offcon’s general manager Harald Hubner.

The catamarans will have remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) in moon-pools so as not to block any deck space.

The two firms said the ships would “close any gaps currently existing in the range of vessels offered to operators of offshore wind farms.”
