The Aberdeen company said KKR had bought a majority stake for an undisclosed fee.
Management is retaining a significant holding in the company, it added.
OEG, which has regional hubs in Singapore, Australia and the US, makes and leases specialist cargo carrying units for supply ships heading to rigs.
KKR is currently looking to offload its stake in Turkish shipowner UN Ro-Ro.
