P&O said it had bought a majority stake in the Spanish owner, giving it eight vessels built between 2005 and 2010 for an undisclosed amount.
The move will create a new joint venture under P&O management.
P&O said the deal would expand its presence to include the Mediterranean and West Africa and enhance its capabilities regarding liquefied natural gas (LNG).
