Its Aker Oilfield Services (AKOFS) unit will send the 10,900-dwt Aker Wayfarer (built 2010) south in the fourth quarter of 2016 to work for Petrobras.
There is a five-year option to extend the deal.
Aker Wayfarer is to be outfitted at a yard in Norway to become a deepwater subsea equipment support vessel (SESV).
AKOFS bareboat-charters the vessel from Norway’s Ocean Yield, which has agreed to pay the $100m conversion cost.
