Hemen Holding, Fredriksen’s private investment vehicle, made the acquisition on Monday, according to a disclosure to the Oslo Bors.
Its stake in Seadrill following the transaction is just over 115m shares, or around 23.3% of the issued share capital.
On Monday Fredriksen was quoted by Reuters as saying that he may take advantage of the sell-off in the stock to boost his holding in Seadrill.
