A German exploration company has claimed force majeure on a Atwood Oceanics jack-up drilling rig working in waters off Egypt.

There are thought to be around 28 rigs in Egyptian waters at present
The Houston-based drilling contractor said RWE Dea Nile GmbH had given notice due to the “civil unrest that has occurred in Egypt.”

The force majeure affects the operations of the Atwood Aurora, which is operating offshore Egypt in the Mediterranean Sea.
