Diamond Offshore Drilling has ordered a fourth deepwater drilling rig at Hyundai Heavy Industries.
Total cost, including commissioning, spares and project management, but excluding capitalized interest, is expected to be about $655m.
Due for delivery in late 2014, the new drillship will be called Ocean BlackLion, and be of the same design as three other rigs on order at Hyundai.
Design specifications include dynamic-positioning, dual activity capability, a maximum hook-load capacity of 1,250t, and operating capability at water depths up to 12,000ft, though initially outfitted for operation at 10,000ft.
