Niels-Erik Lund-led SunStone Ships has reached a framework agreement with China Merchant Industry Holdings to build up to 10 ice-class expedition cruiseships.

The deal involves four firm vessels and options for six more. The ships will have 80 to 95 passenger cabins, which will accommodate 160 to 200 passengers depending on configuration.

Miami-based SunStone, which is a tonnage provider with a fleet of 10 vessels operated by various cruise lines, says it will charter the newbuildings to new and existing customers.
