Britain’s largest independent ship repairer, Burgess Marine, has opened a new yard in Portsmouth.

It has teamed up with Portsmouth City Council's MMD Shipping Services on the operation at Flat House Quay.

It has more than 100 metres of quayside.

The facility was launched with an emergency three-day alongside docking for Wightlink Ferries.

Dave Redman, the chief operating officer of Burgess Marine, said: “The forward looking nature of Portsmouth City Council coupled with the port’s ‘can do’ attitude totally complements the way that we work at Burgess Marine."
