Finnish owner Finnlines has said it stands to gain from additional berth capacity at the port of Naantali.
The port authority has begun EUR 4m ($4.71m) of work to extend the quay from 178 metres to 228 metres so that bigger ships can dock.
The ro-pax and ro-ro group said this would support its plans to expand traffic between Finland, Aland and Sweden.
