Takis Kakoulidis, a pioneer of the modern Piraeus shipbroking scene, has died just a couple of weeks shy of his 79th birthday.

He was the founder and president of Oino Shipbrokers, which started from just a handful of brokers in 1972 to become a three-country operation  with about 40 employees in Piraeus, Singapore and Seoul.

“Takis has been a real gentleman of shipping as well as a great teacher,” his company said in a statement.
