Shipping and energy tycoon William Louis-Dreyfus, the grandson of group founder Leopold Louis-Dreyfus, has died.

His death was revealed by his actress daughter Julia this weekend as she accepted an Emmy award for her role as President Selina Meyer on HBO show Veep.

William Louis-Dreyfus, who was also called Gerard in France, was 84.

“I’m so glad he liked Veep because his opinion was the one that really mattered,” the actress said in dedicating the prize to her father, US media reported.
