The Indonesian navy is frequently confronted with “bogus piracy reports” in regional waters, a top admiral has claimed.

“The number of criminal cases has declined. However, we believe there (must be a plot) to make the Malacca Strait the dangerous strait in the world,” said the commander of Indonesia’s Wetsern Fleet, Rear Admiral Achmad Taufiqoerrochman.

As many of 90% of piracy cases in the area were filed with “ulterior motives” not only involving Indonesian citizens but also people of other nationalities, investigations are said to show.
