The UK’s navy has captured a pirate mothership in the Indian Ocean that is thought to have been involved in the attack on the Italian bulker Montecristo.



The ministry of defence said on Thursday the Somali vessel had also been used in attacks on other merchant vessels in the region.

“It is believed the dhow was hijacked by suspected pirates so that they could use it as a base, or mothership, from which to launch attacks against merchant ships many hundreds of miles from Somalia,” it added.



The
