Wilmar Ship Holdings of Singapore is expanding its fleet with the purchase of an 18-year-old medium range (MR) tanker from Sonangol.
Sources say the Daedong-built 45,000-dwt Welwitschia (built 1998) has been purchased for $5.2m.
The ice-class 1C tanker is due for special survey in December 2018. Wilmar did not respond to requests for comments.
Last year Wilmar bought a similar ship, the Croatian-built 47,000-dwt Azov Sea (built 1998), paying $8.1m.
