American Shipping's chief executive suggested that his company is looking at the containership market as a potential way to expand into other sectors in the Jones Act shipping space.

Pal Lothe Magnussen said fleet growth and diversification could help the Oslo-listed company boost its dividend base.

His comments at the the Marine Money conference in New York come just two weeks after fellow Aker group company Philly Shipyard said it was in advanced discussions to build four containerships for the Jones Act trade between the US mainland and Hawaii.
