Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has gone back to its roots in naming one of its two newly formed shipbuilding companies.

The main subsidiary, which will start operations from its Yokohama headquarters as a wholly owned outfit from January, will be called Mitsubishi Shipbuilding and be headed by president and chief executive Koji Okura.

The name, in its original Japanese form of Mitsubishi Zosen, was the company branding first used for MHI’s shipbuilding activities in 1917.
