It will pay $49.75m for the 114,000-dwt vessels to enter
an area TradeWinds flagged to be on the company’s radar a couple of weeks ago.
Scorpio, which has been on a newbuilding blitz this year,
also has options for two more vessels at the South Korean yard.
Delivery of the firm LR2s is slated for the third quarter
of 2014, a statement says.
TradeWinds first reported last month Scorpio was looking
to enter the LR2 space and this morning RS Platou Markets said the owner had around
$100m left of its expansion arsenal.
Following a flurry of orders this year Scorpio has 28
firm newbuildings split between Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, SPP Shipbuilding and Hyundai
Samho.
