Danaos makes it eight

John Coustas-led Danaos has picked up nearly $7m after throwing its eighth boxship of the year on the scrap heap, it is claimed.

The latest vessel to depart the Greek owner for the beaches of the Sub-continent is the 3,098-teu Lotus (built 1998), brokers and cash buyers say.

Sources are pinning the price of the disposal at around the $453 per to $454 per ldt mark, which comes in at $6.96m.

As TradeWinds has reported the New York-listed owner has sold two other vessels over the past month.

In mid-September it pocketed around $8m from the scrapping of the 3,900-teu Hope (built 1989), and at the start of October collected a further $5.6m from the exit of the 2,917-teu Kalamata (built 1991).
