Seoul-listed Mipo says a client from the Marshall Islands has ordered six vessels worth KRW 222.1bn ($206.7m).

A spokesperson tells TradeWinds the 37,000-dwt tankers will be delivered in 2015 and 2016.

He explains the yard has now secured contracts for 134 vessels worth a collective $4.5bn this year.

“If the rest of the year goes well, we may reach orders in the range of $5bn for close to 150 ships,” he added.

Of Mipo’s 2013 haul, over 100 vessels have been products tankers, with an estimated one third of them handysizes.

A couple of months ago a joint venture between Navig8 and Oaktree penned its debut deal for six 37,000-dwt newbuildings at the South Korean yard.

There is some suggestion Navig8 Chemical Tankers Inc is again the owner involved.
