In a statement to TradeWinds, the state owner stopped short of confirming it was in talks with shipyards, as had been reported by Chinese media.
But it said every shipping company carefully studies "ship updates and capacity restructuring" and China Cosco "is no exception."
It added that it would monitor market conditions and policy opportunities to "steadily push forward structural adjustment."
It promises prompt announcements should any information need to be disclosed.
