Thetwo 178,000-cbm ship order was secured in cooperation with Japanese tradinghouse Mitsubishi Corp.
TradeWinds firstreported that the Japanese shipbuilder was set to win the deal back in October2013.
The membrane-type newbuildings will be deliveredfrom Imabari’s Saijo Shipyard in 2017. No financial details were disclosed.
The Elcano order marks a return to building LNG carriersfor Imabari Shipbuilding after an absence of more than five years.
