SeaRoad inks ro-pax

Australia’s SeaRoad Holdings has ordered a new ro-pax for its Bass Strait run to Tasmania.

Chairman Chas Kelly told local media the new German-built ship will boost its capacity by 50%.

The 182-metre vessel is costing AUD 100m ($92m) and will be delivered late in 2016 or early 2017. No yard name was revealed.

Kelly told ABC: "It will have faster transit times, it'll enable us to have longer time in ports which will also enhance some of the delivery times to the ship."

The newbuilding will replace an older SeaRoad vessel.
