US yard lands order

Moran Iron Works of the US has secured a contract to construct a pair of ocean-going deck barges.

In a statement the Onaway, Michigan-based shipyard identified the client as Kokosing Construction affiliate Durocher Marine.

The company said the units will be named Kokosing III and Kokosing IV and boast cargo capacities of 2,400 short tons a piece.

The first barge is due for delivery in September of this year and the second is schedule to follow a month later.

Durocher Marine, which is also based in Michigan, specialises in projects to repair, stabilise and prevent shore and beach erosion in the US and the Caribbean.
