Arcadia cools VL claims

Arcadia Shipmanagement of Greece has distanced itself from claims a debut VLCC deal is being lined up.

Athens-based Arcadia was this week linked to a double VLCC newbuilding order at South Korea’s DSME.

Dimitrios Mattheou, managing director of the Greek owner, said in an email sent after TradeWinds weekly print deadline: “Arcadia Shipmanagement is not behind of any order of VLCCs either from DSME or any other shipyard.”

He added: “For the time being there is not any diversification of our business.”

Shipbuilding players said Arcadia had been looking to diversify into the VLCC sector for some time. However, they played down talk that a deal at DSME has been concluded.

“We believe the owner [Arcadia] is still studying this VLCC project,” said one.

According to online platform VesselsValue.com, Arcadia owns eight aframax tankers, two long-range-two (LR2) products tankers and four suezmaxes.
