It is paying EUR 13m ($17.7m) for the 6,820-gt passenger and freight ro-ro called Atlantida.

Thesarco beat Mystic Cruises, owned by Portuguese group Douro Azul, which had offered EUR 8m, plus a Dutch consortium comprising MD Roelofs Beheer and Chevalier Floatels, which had offered EUR 4 million, Portugal's business daily Diario Economico said, citing a source from the defence ministry.

The ship had previously been built for the Venezuelan government.
